The events of the book take place just as they do in canon until Johnny "dies". In this AU, Johnny gets recessitated after Dallas Winston runs off. Dallas, thinking Johnny's dead, still robs the grocery store and gets caught by the cops. However, the wounds he sustains were not fatal. Ponyboy and Johnny were not charged with attempted murder, as Cherry Valance testified for them and it was ruled as self defense.**
