Rising tensions with rival nations, an ecological disaster around the corner, a destabilizing political climate, and rumors of global conflict it was only a matter of time for the inevitable happened. And of course it did, it wouldn't be one event that would spell doom for humanity at large. Around the globe the climate had gotten so bad that storms that flooded cities became more and more common, natural disasters occurring everywhere. Though the exact reason for the end of everything is largely a mystery now, with the exact cause either forgotten or not cared for.
Now the earth sits ruined, its lands torched, billions dead across the globe, and the collapse of governments. Now its everyone for themself
