The Republican Party has been brought back to the dead, and calls for an end to Catholic immigration, as well as an outright invasion of the South to bring an end to the Confederate government. And Gotham has long been a city gripped by fear.

In late 2013, the powerful and revered Wayne family—an elite dynasty of Gotham—was brutally murdered in cold blood by an armed robber. Their young son, Bruce Wayne, was left orphaned, with only the loyal care of his butler, Alfred, to guide him. Detective James Gordon took on the case, uncovering a trail that led to infamous criminal Joe Chill and crime boss Salvatore Maroni. But in the corrupt courts of Gotham, justice was bought. The murderer walked free, his guilt swept under the rug by hush money.

Gordon, shunned for his pursuit of truth, left Gotham in disgrace, seeking refuge in Jump City.
