Magic, a treasured gift present in about 35% of the world’s population. The innate ability to manipulate mana given at birth to produce a vast array of results, from trivializing tasks to manipulating the world itself. Mages were raised to hone their abilities, special care given to those with particularly potent magic, an academy created for the sole purpose of guiding mages in their craft. Magic was a heavily integrated part of the world, and despite only a third of the population having it, was a common occurrence in every facet of life.

That was the case until 8 years ago, when a powerful mage named Rose Arundell took the lives of tens of thousands, including her own, in front of the entire world.

The world plunged into fear and uncertainty. After so long with magic as a mainstay, people wondered if such a powerful, dangerous thing was worth its trouble. Animosity spurred between mages and non-mages alike, many fearing for their safety as a spike in magic related crime occurred following the tragedy. World powers collectively found a burning need to act, and thus the Inquisition was born. An establishment whose sole purpose was to apprehend evil mages.

Our story takes place in Gellan, the city Rose Arundell herself once called home. The Inquisition is strong here, but many Mages stand tall in their own claimed district of the city.
